Matthew James "Matt" Hoverman is an American actor, voice actor, playwright, screenwriter, storyboard artist and producer, born in Redding, Connecticut and currently working on Disney Fancy Nancy as writer. He also worked for Disney Junior on Goldie and Bear (2016) and Sofia the First (2013.)

"The multi-talented Matt Hoverman writes witty comedies for television (Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in an Animated Program), the theatre (FringeNYC Award for Outstanding Playwriting) and film. He is also a professional actor, voice-over artist and teacher." This is how he has been described in his website.

Role in "Fancy Nancy"[]

Matt Hoverman has been 18-time credited as writer in Fancy Nancy so far, being nominated for the 2019 Daytime Emmy Award of Outstanding Writing for a Preschool Animated Program alongside Krista Tucker, Laurie Israel and Andy Guerdat.

Matt Hoverman wrote the last episode of season one[1], created Disney's first autistic animated character "Sean," wrote Krista Tucker's season one favorite episode,[2] wrote Fancy Nancy's first sequel episode, [3] and he also was who introduced superheroes to the show.[4]

He told Fancy Nancy Wiki via email how is the whole process of writing an episode of Fancy Nancy and explained his role as writer:

"It takes about a month from start to finish to write an episode of Fancy Nancy. There are many steps. The writers and our brilliant story editor (head writer) Krista Tucker work together on every episode. We start by getting together and "pitching" ideas. (Each of us comes up with a list of episodes we think would be magnifique!) Then Krista gives us notes and we go away and individually turn our ideas into one-page "premises." Those get submitted to Disney. If they like them, they give us notes, and then we talk to Krista about their notes and go away on our own and write a 5-7 page "outline." Again, those go back to Disney for notes. We talk about these notes with Krista and go away on our own to write a first draft, and a second - and she takes her pass at them as well. After a table read, and more notes from our terrific Executive Producer Jamie Mitchell and the other writers and Krista (and, of course, Disney), and a "polish draft" we can finally call a script "Final." A happy day!

Sometimes, within that process, we also turn the script into a "story book" that an artist illustrates and our educational department reads to pre-schoolers, to see if they like and understand the story. I always like to go to these, because I love to see our audience up close!

And while our work mostly ends when we finish the script, sometimes our EP/Director will come back to us and show us an early version of the animation and say things like "We need more dialogue here" or "This line needs to be changed." - etc.

Of course, we also write the lyrics for the show's songs - and then our genius composer Matthew Tishler puts them to music. That's my favorite part!" — Matt Hoverman - May 5, 2020.
